Can I be real with you?

A message from Oneday’s CEO & Co-Founder, Ranbir Arora

Linkedin is full of influencers & founders tooting their own horns, bigging up their achievements and making it look so easy, while to-be entrepreneurs who are earlier in the journey are left wondering why it’s so hard for us but not them, left feeling inadequate and unsuccessful. So let me open up about the reality behind the headline you see below.

I fail more than anyone else that I know of. In my work, my relationships, in my friendships. I fail constantly, and massively every day.

I used to think that I was doing something wrong. That failure is the outcome of bad judgement. That if I work hard enough, and read enough books, I can learn to avoid failure. But after 13 years of failing a lot (and getting it right once or twice) I realised i was wrong.

You cannot avoid failure, you have to go straight through it. No-one has ever avoided it. It’s a pre-requisite. It’s the only way to get there. Just because these influencers aren’t talking about it, doesn’t mean they’re not failing too.

The fact of the matter is, that’s just what the journey of creating a business (or a happy life, for that matter) looks like. It takes 7-10 years and there’s a lot of failure along the way.

It’s not a bad thing at all. Our team at Oneday fails every single day, but we’ve made it part of our operating DNA. Mark my words in stone, we will create a global education system for entrepreneurship & the passion economy, and help millions of people create careers they love, but we don’t expect it to be a smooth ride the whole way.

If you’re currently there now, currently trying but hitting failures, I’m right there with you. Heads up, chest out, charging straight through it is the only way to get where we want to go.

Do what you have to do to push through it. Call your friends, meditate, pray, hit the gym, I don’t care what it is. As long as you wake up the next day and try again.

Building a business and following your passions is the most magical journey you can take. But not because the destination is beautiful, it’s the journey there, where all the magic is. We have to create the right realistic, stoic mindset that will make it enjoyable.

You’re not falling behind, you’re at the same spot the rest of us are. It’s not just you who is failing along the way, we’re all there too with you. Slowly but surely, some things start to go your way, as long as you keep trying for them :)
